This weekend we had the luxury of borrowing my boss’ SUV to move things out of the small storage unit we have had since we moved back to Atlanta in 2002. It’s good to get rid of that $30/month bill and even better to have everything under one roof again for the first time in a very, very long time. We also went to another boss’ house to “borrow” a very nice propane grill for some indefinite period of time. (He bought a new house and has a grill that is connected to the gas line to the house.)

In addition, through the course of the last week we have “finished” the foyer, living room, dining room and kitchen. There is no art on the walls yet and the dining room’s decor is hurt somewhat by the piles of artwork leaning against the walls and sitting in the corners. However, we sat by the fire two nights running and just absorbed the space and the magic that we find in the vaulted ceiling, the brick, the 3/4 wall, the clerestory windows. The house amazes me because I am forever finding some new angle that I had never seen before that makes me gasp. It’s really magical.

We also replaced the aerator on the kitchen sink – our first little home improvement item. We also had to put a screen door back on its track, try to figure out how to remove the fireplace screen (since it doesn’t work very well at all), replace light bulbs, try to find the main water valve into the house (where could it be???) and curse the way the upper cabinets in the kitchen are designed (the sellers were smoking crack when they dreamt up that configuration). So, it’s dreamy in a realistic way. There’s so much to do but it’s such a pleasure to do it in a place we love.
