Happy New Year

I’m sitting on the couch in pajamas and robe. It’s 8:19 on New Year’s Eve and even though I’ve never exactly been the party-till-morning sort this is a bit extreme. Len and I are both sick. I actually think all three of us are sick. Sam has a cough and looks pale. But his appetite is good and he’s had energy today – more than I can say for the rest of us.

There have been lots of years when I would have mired myself in despairing thoughts of how this illness is a prophetic sign of doom in the coming year but I’m actually feeling pretty calm right now. I need to feel better and so does Len — we are moving in just a few days after all — but I’m not reading anything into this.

I talked to a friend tonight that I haven’t talked to in a long time. She said the slogan for 2008 is: Feeling Great in 2008. (2009 will be Feeling Fine in 2009.) This year also marks the Year of the Rat in Chinese astrology and I am a rat. I’m looking forward to a good year. I’m looking forward to being settled into our house and eating well and working out well and learning and growing every day. I hope to stick to “keeping things in perspective.” I’m hopeful that we will see lots of friends and family this year and have lots of get-togethers at the house. I love having company. I’m also looking forward to taking down the wallpaper in the master bathroom and painting it a great color I have picked out. There’s lots of opportunity out there. I’m going to try to take advantage of it all.

As soon as I get well.

Oh! And a little news item is that we saw the house empty for the first time today and it looked great. It still needs some cleaning and apparently the seller is all over it. It should be move-in ready on Friday.

Happy New Year, everybody!
